Description

The sport of blind cricket is a version of the mainstream game which has been adapted so that it can be played by blind and partially sighted players. The primary adaptations are the use of an audible cricket ball, underarm bowling, and metal stumps.

The audible cricket ball is made of white plastic and contains small metal balls, which provide an audible sound when the ball is bowled, thrown, or hit.

Bowling is underarm, and the ball must bounce at least once in both halves of the pitch. This ensures that all players have a reasonable chance to hit the ball when batting. The metal stumps create a distinctive sound when struck by the ball, they are also used extensively to assist in orienting the players when fielding and bowling.

There are many opportunities to participate in blind cricket, with activities ranging from simply participating for fitness and wellbeing, through social blind cricket, to various levels of competitive blind cricket (e.g. state and national teams).

All ages and genders are welcome.

Blind Cricket is played at Fawkner Park (South Yarra) and at Vision Australia (Kooyong). Full details and accessibility information for these venues can be found on the VBCA website at www.vbca.org.au

Costs of activity:

Costs vary depending upon the activities you wish to participate in and the grants / funding available. Typically costs range from $0 (FREE) to ~$250. For up-to-date costs please visit the VBCA website at www.vbca.org.au
