A day of inclusion; Blind Golf in Euroa. We Joined In!

From first putt to full swing. A day of inclusion on the green.

The Euroa Blind Golf Come and Try Day was a fantastic and successful event, with 21 people attending to experience the game of blind golf in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Participants with vision loss were partnered with enthusiastic trained blind golf caddies from the Euroa Golf Club, who provided guidance, encouragement, and support throughout the day.

The event began with participants learning the basics of putting before moving on to golf grip techniques, swinging, and driving. As confidence grew, participants then had the opportunity to experience playing a hole of golf. The day was filled with laughter, encouragement, and a strong sense of connection and achievement, with fun had by all involved.

Feedback from participants highlighted how enjoyable and inclusive the day was. Comments included:
“I simply enjoyed everything”, and
“Having the opportunity to learn and play golf, to socialise and to be in nature were all highlights.”

Participants appreciated not only learning new skills, but also the opportunity to connect with others and experience the welcoming atmosphere of the club. Volunteer blind golf caddies and Euroa Golf Club members also shared very positive feedback about their involvement in the event.

One caddy reflected, “I loved the satisfaction of helping someone with vision loss to learn to hit a golf ball and to see their delight when hearing that they had good contact with the ball.”

Others commented on how enthusiastic everyone was, and how rewarding it was watch the joy on everyone's faces. Club members also spoke about the valuable insight the experience provided and how it encouraged them to think differently about the game of golf and inclusion.

A special thank you goes to James Atkin from Blind Golf Victoria for supporting the event, sharing his insights and tips, and encouraging new players to become involved in blind golf. We would also like to sincerely thank the Euroa Golf Club for hosting the event and for so warmly embracing blind golf and inclusive participation within their club. Finally, thank you to our project partners Valley Sport, Blind Golf Victoria, and Golf Australia and to the Victorian State Government for the funding support that made this project possible.
