Beechworth Golf Club was full of activity on Saturday, 19 September 2026, as Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria (BSRV), Blind Golf Victoria and Beechworth Golf Club came together for another Blind Golf Come and Try Day.
Twenty-four people attended the event, including seven participants with vision loss, for a morning of golf, friendship and plenty of fun.
We couldn't have asked for better spring weather, with sunny skies and a beautiful 20-degree day providing perfect conditions to get out on the golf course.
The morning began with a lovely morning tea at 10:00 am, giving everyone an opportunity to catch up, meet new people and get ready for the activities ahead.
Then it was time to get out onto the course!
Participants broke into smaller groups and had the opportunity to practise different golf skills, including putting and chipping across several different holes. Some participants also tried hitting balls at the practice nets, while others headed further out onto the course to play a few holes with the support of their caddies.
Whether participants had played golf before or were picking up a club for the first time, the focus was on having a go, learning new skills and enjoying the experience together.
The support provided by the Beechworth Golf Club members and volunteer caddies was a highlight of the day. They provided clear instructions, encouragement and assistance while helping participants build their confidence on the course.
The feedback following the event was overwhelmingly positive.
Participants said:
“I had a really enjoyable time. The caddies were so affirmative and helpful with clear instructions. I felt very welcomed by the club.”
Another participant reflected on the social side of the day and the support provided by the caddies:
“A big thank you to BSRV and the club for organising the day. They were just as enthusiastic as me when I hit it. They were high-fiving me and their instructions were great.”
Beechworth Golf Club caddy also enjoyed being part of the day:
“Great day. Met some great new people.”
The event was about much more than learning how to putt, chip or hit a golf ball. It was an opportunity for people with vision loss to try something different, spend time outdoors, meet new people and experience golf in an inclusive and supportive environment.
It was also wonderful to see the confidence that Beechworth Golf Club has developed through hosting Blind Golf activities. Club members have embraced the program and gained valuable experience supporting golfers with vision loss.
A huge thank you to Beechworth Golf Club and its members and volunteers for once again welcoming us so warmly, providing morning tea and helping make the day such a success.
