TEN PIN BOWLING
National Body for Blind Tenpin Bowling
Tenpin bowling became an affiliated sport under the ABSF (Australian Blind
Sports Federation) in October 2007. Blind & Vision Impaired Tenpin
Bowling (Aust.) has opened its membership to blind/vision impaired bowlers,
accredited coaches and volunteers working with blind/vision impaired bowlers.
The constitution and by-laws will be available electronically or other
formats upon request.

3rd Australian Blind Tenpin Bowling Championships
The Victorian team consisted of:
Frank Bartoli - B2;
Allan Bates - B1;
Jean Gale - B2;
Kay Hancock - B2;
Hazel Hockley - B2;
Paul Holmes - B1;
Marilyn Luck - B1;
Tim Mitchell - B3;
Ben Peacock - B3; and
Kingsley Williams - B3.
There were also four staff members:
Jennifer King - Team Manager & B1 Guide,
Rosalyn Bates - B1 Guide,
Ron Gale - Escort/Guide and
Eileen Scott - B1 Guide.
Congratulations to everyone. We returned home from Brisbane with a grand
total of 33 medals. These were awarded to:
Frank Bartoli - Gold (Doubles Handicap), Silver (singles Handicap) and
Silver (All Events Handicap);
Allan Bates - Bronze (Doubles Handicap), Silver (4 Person Team Handicap),
Silver (Singles Scratch), Silver (Singles Handicap), Silver (All Events
Scratch) and Silver (All Events Handicap);
Jean Gale - Silver (Singles Scratch);
Kay Hancock - Silver (4 Person Team Scratch), Gold (Singles Scratch),
Gold (Singles Handicap), Silver (All Events Scratch), Gold (All Events
Handicap);
Hazel Hockley - Silver (4 Person Team Handicap), Bronze (Singles Scratch),
Bronze (Singles Handicap) and Bronze (All Events Scratch);
Paul Holmes - Gold (Doubles Handicap) and Bronze (All Events Handicap);
Marilyn Luck - Silver (4 Person Team Scratch), Silver (Singles Scratch),
Silver (Singles Handicap), Silver (All Events Scratch) and Silver (All
Events Handicap);
Ben Peacock - Silver (4Person Team Scratch), Bronze (Doubles Handicap),
Gold (Singles Handicap) and Bronze (All Events Handicap);
Kingsley Williams - Silver (4Person Team Scratch), Gold (Singles Scratch)
and Silver (All Events Scratch).
Four trophies were also awarded to:
Kay Hancock - Highest Number of Pins over Average;
- Highest Game (177);
Ben Peacock - Highest Number of Pins over Average; and Kingsley Williams
- Highest Series.
Victoria also won the Ian Fowler Interstate Challenge Shield with 36,622
pins against WA - 34,198 and NSW - 17,990 pins. The shield was presented
by Mr/ Ian Fowler to Hazel Hockley and Jennifer King from the Victorian
Team.
Selection of the Australian Team for the World Championships
The Australian team was selected for the forthcoming World Championships
in November this year. These are being hosted by Australia in Sydney,
NSW. Congratulations to:
Frank Bartoli, Allan Bates, Hazel Hockley, Paul Holmes, Sandra Knight
and Marilyn Luck.
Now the fundraising begins with $3,000 to be raised for each bowler.
TBA National Disabilities Championships:
Combined with the ABSF Australian Championships were the TBA National
Disabilities Championships. Some bowlers participated in both championships
and we are happy to congratulate the Victorian State Team for coming
2nd in their State Team Handicap Challenge. The team consisted of:
Kirk and Kimberley from Special Olympics; Ben Peacoc, Tim Mitchell and
Hazel Hockley from Blind Sports Victoria.
Congratulations once again to everyone on their great achievements.
We would also like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone who
assisted the Victorian Blind State Team, especially Australian Sports
Foundation who gave us a grant to cover transport and the Department
of Victorian Communities who assisted the team with uniforms.
